Each year, North Carolina Main Street communities across the state recognize individuals who embody the spirit of Main Street through their passion, dedication, and service. For 2024, Uptown Roxboro is proud to name Larry Cole as our North Carolina Main Street Champion—a title that couldn’t be more fitting.
If you’ve spent any time in Roxboro, you’ve probably met Larry—or at the very least, you’ve experienced the impact of his hard work. Larry is the proud owner of Furniture Mart and America’s Mattress in Roxboro and serves as President of the Roxboro Area Merchants Association. But beyond his business success, Larry is a true advocate for our community, earning him the self-proclaimed (and locally accepted) title of “Ambassador to Roxboro.”
We are thrilled to share the text of Larry’s nomination letter, which perfectly captures why he is so deserving of this recognition:
“Larry Cole is the self-proclaimed ‘Ambassador to Roxboro,’ and he’s absolutely right in his assessment. Larry is the owner of both Furniture Mart and America’s Mattress stores in Roxboro and serves as President of the Roxboro Area Merchants Association. His love for the community shines through in everything he does—constantly highlighting the best of its people and businesses. He never misses an opportunity to get involved and make a difference.
Larry is a holiday icon in Roxboro. Each year, he volunteers his time and talents to direct the Independence Day Parade in Uptown Roxboro—a beloved event that the community simply cannot do without. When Christmas comes around, Larry ensures the lighted decorations go up on the power poles, and the Santa House arrives in his business parking lot so that all the children in the community can visit Santa for free and take as many pictures as they want. He manages all of this while successfully running his businesses and being a friend, husband, father, and grandfather.
For these reasons, and many more, Roxboro is honored to recognize Larry Cole as its 2024 North Carolina Main Street Champion.”
