Mayo Lake may be the smaller of Person County’s two lakes, but it is big on outdoor amenities. In addition to 2800 acres of water for boating, fishing, kayaking and canoeing, there are 120 acres of wooded parkland for those who prefer on shore activities. The park is an ideal place for taking the whole family for a day to enjoy the outdoors at any time of year. If you are planning a trip to Mayo, here are a few things to know:
-The park is located 10 miles north of the City of Roxboro, NC and just a few miles south of the Virginia state line at 1013 Neal’s Store Rd.
-Mayo Lake Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset year round.
-Mayo Park office hours are Tuesday – Friday from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
-For activities on the water, the park has boat access, as well as an ADA accessible fishing pier. Kayaks and Canoes are available for rent should you not have your own. There are no swimming areas available at the lake.
-Campers can rent primitive campsites, cabins, or RV hook up sites – please see website for details and pricing. Campers must check in with a ranger.
-On shore activities include hiking trails, disk golf, horseshoes, playground equipment and large open playing field.
-Make a day of it and enjoy a picnic lunch – the park has a picnic shelter, and picnic tables along the shoreline. The picnic shelter may be reserved for large gatherings.
-Reserve the park’s Amphitheater or Environmental Education and Community Center for large events or concerts.
-Restrooms and bathhouse are available for campers; but in the Winter may operate on a limited service capacity.
