Hyco Lake Campground

Located in the north western portion of Person County, Hyco Lake draws visitors year-round, both local and out of state. Built in the 60’s, the lake covers 3,750 acres and contains 25 billion gallons of water. The lake is managed by the Caswell-Person Lake Authority. While Hyco Lake has a large community of full-time residents, it also offers a variety of resources and conveniences for campers, boaters, and overnight visitors.

Boating: Hyco has six boat ramps, piers, and boardwalks, plus a large parking area for trucks and boat trailers. All boaters must obtain a boating permit prior to launching their watercraft. Day permits and annual permits are available. For permit information and pricing, contact the CPLA office at 336-599-4343. Always follow safety guidelines and rules when boating. See a full list of boating regulations in North Carolina by visiting ncwildlife.org/boating

Camping: Hyco has RV hookup sites, primitive camp sites, and cottages to rent. Find out more by visiting the reservation portal at the CPLA website.

Fishing: If fishing by boat, make sure you have a permit before launching your boat. Fish from shore only in permitted areas of the recreation area.

Picnic Shelter and Community Building Rental: Rent a Picnic shelter that includes power, water, and grill; or reserve the W.H. “Bill” Barker Community House for larger gatherings. With a full kitchen and deck overlooking the lake, this location is perfect for weddings, reunions and other large (up to 125 people) gatherings. This, and the picnic shelters may be reserved by calling 336-599-4343.

Natural Learning Area: 30 acres of parkland is developed into the Hyco “Natural Learning Area” and is free to the public. This area features a paved main walking and biking trail plus other trails that will take hikers throughout the wooded area. Rest in the 16 ft Gazebo, or picnic at one of several picnic areas along the trails in this area. Restrooms are in the bathhouse at the beginning of the handicap accessible trailhead near the parking lot.

Swimming Beach: Unfortunately, the public swimming area is closed indefinitely due to Covid-19.

Disk Golf: Hyco is the home of the Kracken disk golf course, which has 18 baskets and is free to use. Parking for the course is immediately to the left before you pass the entry stand for the campground.
