The Person County Museum

There are eight buildings on the Museum campus that house exhibits that highlight different parts of Person County history. Permanent exhibits include aspects of the African American community, the American Indian Community of the Sappony Tribe, and military history/memorabilia from the Revolutionary War through the Iraq War. Permanent buildings house tobacco history/ memorabilia, a doctor’s office from the mid 1800’s, and a general store that showcases a unique doll collection. There is also a Veterans’ Plaza and Courtyard with a gazebo where you can sit and reflect.

You don’t need to have a knowledge or fondness for Person County to enjoy the exhibits throughout the Museum. Everyone will find a memory.

One of the big highlights of the museum is the Enos Slaughter Exhibit: Famous sports figure, Enos Slaughter, played in the Major Leagues during the 1930s,’40s and ’50s. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985. Slaughter played for the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Braves (before the team moved to Atlanta). During his career, Slaughter played in five World Series and was on winning teams four times. One of his most memorable feats was scoring from first on a single during the 1946 World Series. A statue depicting his slide into home plate is located in front of Busch Stadium, home of the Cardinals. A replica of this statue is in the Museum’s exhibit along with a photograph of the famous feat. Baseball fans will enjoy the many items on display in this exhibit.

You will also find Person County’s first Escape Room, where you are given 60 minutes to find the clues and escape. The circumstances created bring about excitement, laughter, and ample amounts of adrenaline and force you to manage yourself efficiently and effectively with others, thus creating an amazing team-building experience. Whether you escape or not, at the end of the session, you will have created a memory and will have learned communication lessons that will be etched in your mind for eternity! To schedule the Escape Room Experience, call (336) 597-2884 or e-mail pcmuseum@roxboro.net.
