URG names 2023 Main Street Champion

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Claudia Berryhill, is a staunch supporter of Uptown Roxboro economic development efforts. Her incomparable volunteer efforts are visible almost everywhere you look. Dr. Berryhill is not only an Uptown building and business owner, she also supports and encourages the small business community. Dr. Berryhill also serves as a vital member of the Uptown Roxboro Group Design Committee. She has previously won Main Street Awards for multiple projects in the Uptown District and her late husband, Lacy Winstead, was a former Uptown Roxboro Main Street Champion.

Dr. Berryhill currently serves as Chair of the Person County Tourism Development Board of Directors and serves as ex-oficio on the Person County Economic Development Commission Board. She is a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which is the highest award for state service granted by the Governor of North Carolina. As a constant advocate for documentation and preservation of Roxboro’s history, Dr. Berryhill has made it a priority to treasure her community heritage and family, while pursuing continued future Uptown Roxboro revitalization.

Dr. Claudia Berryhill is an integral part of Uptown Roxboro and for these reasons we recognize her as our 2023 North Carolina Main Street Champion.

“Claudia Berryhill is a determined Volunteer and often works behind the scenes for Uptown Roxboro Group. It was a privilege to watch her accept the award as Roxboro’s Main Street Champion 2023. I know Claudia loves this community and I am excited to see what else she has up her sleeves for Uptown this year.” -Megan Gilbert, URG President

“Since finding out about this award, Claudia has repeatedly told me that she “plants and waters flowers”, but she doesn’t see the big picture of the impact she has had in Uptown Roxboro through all of her support and involvement over the years. The work we do as Uptown Roxboro Group is made easier because we have volunteers like Dr. Claudia Berryhill!” – April Spencer, Executive Director, Uptown Roxboro Group
