The milder weather is perfect for packing up the family and heading to Mayo Lake, where you can picnic with a lake view at one of the park’s picnic tables, shelters, or spread a blanket in the grass. If you have never checked out the Natural Learning Area at Hyco Lake, springtime is a great time to enjoy all this area has to offer. There is a handicap accessible trail and viewing deck along the shoreline, as well as approximately one additional mile of hard gravel trails. The paved trail is perfect for strollers or bikes, and dogs are welcome (dogs must be kept on a leash). The Natural Learning Area also has picnic tables and a gazebo if you need to pause for a quick lunch or snack. Hyco Lake Natural Learning Area is located at 205 Kelly Brewer Rd. If an easy afternoon drive is more your speed, the Person County Heritage Trail and the Quilt Trail are both wonderful ways to get out and see the beautiful Person County springtime landscape as well as learn about the county’s unique history.
